Scuba Diving - Sonja and Wouter Gijsbertse
|
|
Scuba diving is one of the most fascinating outdoor sports. It takes you to a mysterious
and beatiful underwater world with amazing colours and creatures. Although scuba diving
in Swiss lakes is quit popular, it is not mend for us, since we really are warm water
divers.
On this site you will find some of our visit reports to several dive sites e.g. in the
Maldives and the Red Sea. These visit reports only express our personal subjective opinion
at the time of the visit.

Summary |
Dahab, Red Sea, Egypt
|
(January 2004)
Dahab is situated some 90km north of Sharm-El-Sheikh on the Red Sea coast line. Dahab is a small paradise
for windsurfers and scuba divers and is not yet very crowded with tourists. The Swiss Inn hotel resort
offers excellent accomodation, good food and a beautiful beach. The dive sites are within easy reach of
jeeps and pickup trucks. The most exciting and famous dive site is probably the Blue Hole which is really
sensational. You may even book a dive trip on a camel. All dive sites are usually easily accessable from
the shore. Under water you will find many small fish, impressive corals and a wide variety of colours. |
Ananyana Resort, Panglao, Bohol,
Philippines
|
(May 2002)
The Ananyana Beach Resort is situated on the island of Panglao south of Cebu in the
Philippines. This small resort with its own quiet beach is a perfect starting point
for a wonderful dive holiday. With only 10 spacious rooms and extraordinary friendly
staff this resort specialises in tranquility, relaxing and unwinding. There is a house
reef just in front of the resort and the other magnificent dive sites are all in easy
reach. Under water you see a wide variety of corals, spunges, smaller fish, crustacions
and snails in all colours. The real attraction are however the numerous frog fish
and ghost pipe fish. This is really a diver's dream! |
Diani Beach, Kenya
|
(January 2002)
Diani Beach is a long stretched sandy beach on the coast of Kenya (just south of Mombasa).
Here you will find several larger resorts with (at least while we were there) mainly
elderly guests. Diving here is a litte bit more challenging because of stronger winds,
fairly high waves and sometimes some washing machine type of currents. But here you
might spot delphins and even whale sharks! |
Redang, Malaysia
|
(September 2001)
Redang is a small island off the east coast of Malaysia. It is a true diver's paradise.
Warm and cristal clear water, magnificent under water panorama in a quiet and relaxing
atmosphere. The long trip from Europe can be shortened by making a stop-over in Kuala
Lumpur for some very interesting sight-seeing. An definite recommendation! |
Cayo Largo, Cuba
|
(September
2000)
Cayo Largo is a Cuban all-inclusive tourist island. The island offers excellent value
for money. A variety of restaurants and bars offer free food and drinks. A few Cuba
Libres or other rum-based drinks thus complete a relaxing and no-stress stay on this
island. From the two dive centers, the Cuban dive center is highly recommended. Diving
is however less varied, less colourful and less exciting as elsewhere in the world. |
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt
|
(May
2000)
Sharm El Sheikh is a small (tourist) village in Egypt directly on the Red Sea coast
line. Diving is superb because of the amazing colours, the huge amount of (small)
fish and corals and last but not least, exciting wreckdiving (Thistlegorm). Sharm
El Sheikh is one of the most beatiful places in the Red Sea area. But because of this,
in the high season you will bump into many tourists (also under water). The village
however breathes an overwhelming arabian atmosphere with delicious food, cool drinks
and ofcourse the traditional water pipes. |
Eriyadhoo, Maldives
|
(May
1999)
Eriyadhoo is a fairly small Maldive island in the north of the archipel. There is
a lovely house reef which is excellently suited also for night dives. Again the people
are very friendly. Thus, if you like peace and quiet, then Eriyadhoo is also a definite
recommendation. |
Vilamendhoo, Maldives
|
(October
1998)
The Maldive island of Vilamendhoo is a definite recommendation. The island is not
too small, the people are very friendly and the food is good with a wide choice of
dishes. Diving is both great on the house reef as well as the many nearby dive sites. |
